It is hard to believe that the summer is already here! I want to congratulate all 2015 graduates for all of your hard work. Best wishes to you as you continue your journey down life's path!
In this newsletter, I will update you on the things my office has been doing over the last month. In the next issue, I will provide you with a summary of the new laws taking effect July 1, 2015.
As always, I am grateful for your confidence and look forward to seeing you around town!
All The Best,
Delegate Scott Garrett M.D.
House Appropriations Committee
Capital Outlay Tour
Last month, I joined my colleagues on the House Appropriations Committee for a week-long tour of the capital projects the state funds. We visited state universities and colleges, libraries, parks, museums, and hospitals. Being able to see these locations first-hand will be beneficial when our committee is tasked with determining their future funding. Many thanks to the committee staff for organizing such a fruitful tour.
Virginia Chamber of Commerce
Awards "A+" Rating
The Virginia Chamber of Commerce released their 2015 Legislative Report Card last month. Once again, Delegate Garrett was awarded an "A+" rating for his votes on key business issues. The Legislative Report Card recognizes legislators for their support of initiatives that will help move Virginia forward and provides an analysis of legislators' support for the business community's priorities. "I am honored to again receive this high rating with the Virginia Chamber of Commerce and look forward to continuing to support public policy that strengthens our business climate and maintains Virginia's status as one of the best states for business," said Delegate Garrett.
Support Our National Guard Troops
Did you know that Friday, June 5th was "National Doughnut Day"?? It also was the day for the Lynchburg-based First Battalion 116th Infantry Regiment to assemble before they departed for their annual two week long training in New York. To encourage them and thank them for all they do to serve our families and our community, Delegate Kathy Byron and I brought them doughnuts and coffee. We are blessed with a National Guard that is ready to serve whenever necessary!
School will be starting again before we know it! And each year I hold a school supplies drive in partnership with our area Wal-Mart stores. This year, our drive will take place on Saturday, August 8th from 9am to 3pm. If you would like to volunteer, please contact my office at (434) 455-0243 or DelSGarrett@house.virginia.gov. This is such a rewarding event that truly shows the heart of Central Virginia!
