Lynchburg, VA (July 7, 2011)—On Friday, members of the “Support our Troops” rallies will celebrate 500 consecutive weeks in support of our military veterans and our fundamental freedoms. Delegate T. Scott Garrett, M.D., of the 23rd District will attend the rally on Friday, July 8 at noon to present House Resolution 61, which commends the veterans and rally goers for their patriotism and commitment to honoring our Armed Forces.

Veterans and area residents have gathered at Monument Terrace in downtown Lynchburg every week since November 2001. Each Friday at noon, rally members line Church Street to recognize the commitment and sacrifice of America’s Armed Forces. Led by founder, Steve Bozeman, rally members include veterans of World War II, The Korean War, The Vietnam War, The Cold War, The Gulf War, as well as Afghanistan and Iraq. These patriots wave flags, carry military memorabilia, and don clothes of red, white, and blue.

Delegate Garrett is the patron of House Resolution 61, which was unanimously passed in the House of Delegates during the 2011 General Assembly. Members of the general public are encouraged to attend the rally at Monument Terrace on July 8 at noon.

“I salute the men and women who have stood strong and resolute in support of our troops and our fundamental freedoms,” Garrett said. “Their dedication and commitment to our country is a testament to the value of liberty, bravely won and nobly secured.

Delegate T. Scott Garrett, M.D. was elected in 2009 to represent the 23rd House District in the General Assembly.
